The vividness of the flower, which comes in all shades of the rainbow, draws crowds from all over the world, and it is easy to see why. Besides, nothing makes your socials pop like a photo in front of fields of this popular flora.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"33927\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_634589777-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33927\"\/><figcaption>Tulips are known for their vivid and varied colors. Originally found in the mountains of Central Asia, they were a symbol of the Ottoman Empire. The flower made its way west in 1550, and became a much-coveted item, particularly in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/trains\/netherlands?utm_source=omio-magazine&amp;utm_medium=magazine&amp;utm_campaign=February%20&amp;utm_content=TulipFestival&amp;utm_term=US_trains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Holland<\/a>. It became the \u201cit-bag\u201d (or should that be it-bulb?) of the upper classes. During the time known as \u201cTulip Mania,\u201d it wasn\u2019t uncommon for people to sell their houses just to get their hands on a bulb or two. At one point, tulips were worth more than their weight in gold. Talk about tulip fever!<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"search-widget-overlay\" class=\"search-widget-overlay\">\r\n  <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__form\" data-search-widget-container>\r\n    <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__details\">\r\n      <button class=\"search-widget-overlay__close\" data-search-widget-close>\r\n        \u2715\r\n      <\/button>\r\n      <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__text\">\r\n        Holland      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"search-widget-cta\">\r\n  <button class=\"search-widget-cta__button\" data-search-widget-cta>\r\n    Tickets to Holland  <\/button>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>But with all booms, there must be a bust, and just like that, the craze ended. In 1637, demand dropped and prices plummeted. Sellers lost everything in a matter of days. And yet, the flower still maintained its popularity\u2014it helps that Holland has the perfect conditions to grow tulips in abundance. To this day, every spring, the Netherlands celebrates the flower and its meaning to the country and people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the biggest celebrations is the infamous Flower Parade\u2014also known as &nbsp;Bloemencorso Bollenstreek\u2014which takes place every year in late April (bar during the pandemic, but let\u2019s not dwell on that) in the Lissa municipality. It started after WWII to imbue joy and celebration, and consisted of several floats adorned with flowers such as hyacinths, daffodils and tulips. The happiness it brought was incalculable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"33933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_1208975212-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33933\"\/><figcaption>The Flower Parade in Holland boasts flora-adorned sculptures that need to be seen to be believed. The parade will boast around 20 floats, which will transport magnificent flower sculptures from Noordwijk to Haarlem, which is about thirty minutes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/countries\/netherlands\/amsterdam-the-city-guide\/\">Amsterdam<\/a> on public transport.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"search-widget-overlay\" class=\"search-widget-overlay\">\r\n  <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__form\" data-search-widget-container>\r\n    <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__details\">\r\n      <button class=\"search-widget-overlay__close\" data-search-widget-close>\r\n        \u2715\r\n      <\/button>\r\n      <div class=\"search-widget-overlay__text\">\r\n        Amsterdam      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"search-widget-cta\">\r\n  <button class=\"search-widget-cta__button\" data-search-widget-cta>\r\n    Tickets to Amsterdam  <\/button>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s said the best place to watch the Flower Parade is outside the infamous Keukenhof Tulip Gardens. On the parade\u2019s route, there\u2019s plenty of space to see the procession go by. Afterward, pop into the park and experience flower beds like no other.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"33941\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_525031105-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33941\"\/><figcaption>Keukenhof Gardens is a paradise for Tulip lovers. Credit: Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the fall, Keukenhof gardeners plant roughly 7 million bulbs by hand and lovingly tender them until they bloom. Keukenhof is around 32 hectares so it\u2019s easy to while away the hours admiring the vast sea of tulips in their many colors and variations. You can also see other spring flowers, too, such as irises and hyacinths\u2014the scent in the air can only be described as heavenly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"33947\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_101172397-1024x680.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33947\"\/><figcaption>At Keukenhof, you can enjoy more than 32 hectares of perfectly-planted tulips. Credit: Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Open when the tulips are in bloom (between March and May every year), Keukenhof garden is a delight for any flower lover. And for those who\u2019d like to see the fields from above, you can organize a helicopter ride that takes you above the gardens and the parade. Talk about a bird&#8217;s-eye view!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re on a budget, visit the myriad flower fields around Holland for free. The district of Flevoland, just northeast of Amsterdam is a winner. The area is Holland\u2019s newest and was created out of repurposed land from the bottom of the Zuiderzee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-5 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"33954\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_1087932614-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33954\"\/><figcaption>Swaths of Holland\u2019s countryside become a carpet of flowers during spring. Along the way, you\u2019ll discover flower farms such as De Tulpen Pluktuin, where you\u2019re allowed to pick your own bouquet to take home.
