Flying is an excellent way to reach the Czech capital, one of the jewels of central Europe. Direct flights travel from New York, Philadelphia, and Newark to Vaclav Havel Airport on a seasonal basis. Even if direct options aren't available, reaching Prague is easy via major European aviation hubs.
There is only one airport near Prague. All flights to the city will arrive at Vaclav Havel Airport. Named after one of the most famous anti-communist dissidents, the airport is around seven miles west of the city center, but transfers are simple. Buses 119 or 100 run from the terminals to nearby Metro stations and transfer times work out at about 35 minutes in most cases.
Direct flights from North America to Prague are provided by Delta, American Airlines, and United. Flights leave from New York JFK, Newark, and Philadelphia during the summer tourist season. Outside that period, connecting flights with British Airways, Air France, or Lufthansa are all easy to arrange.
Flights to Prague make a lot of sense for North American visitors. Most importantly, when direct flights are available, there's no faster route to the Czech capital. Direct services take just eight hours and passengers will touch down within half an hour of the city center. Even when direct options aren't a possibility, flying makes sense. There's no quicker route to Prague from major European aviation hubs like Paris CDG or London Heathrow. On top of that, connecting flights offer comfort and convenience that international buses and trains could never offer, so it's always a great way to travel.
When travelers arrive in Prague, it makes sense to purchase multi-day passes for the Metro and buses. That way, visitors won't need to worry about buying tickets for individual journeys, and prices will be far lower. With a pass purchased, the city has plenty to offer. Starting at historic Wenceslas Square, explore Hradcany (the ancient castle), and take some romantic snaps on the Charles Bridge. Duck into St Vitus Cathedral, but find some time for less well-known attractions as well. The Vojan Garden is a delight, as is the superbly restored rococo Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace. The Museum of Alchemists and Magicians offers creepy thrills for horror lovers.
