Omio wins award at the first edition of the Renfe Awards

  • Omio has been recognised as an organisation that, during the past two years, has been a protagonist in driving the success of the transportation sector
  • Renfe names Omio as its most active online agency throughout the pandemic during an award ceremony at Fitur 2022
  • Omio is proud to partner with Europe’s leading train providers, such as Renfe, to give travellers easier access to rail travel

Berlin, 20 January 2022: Omio, Europe’s leading multi-modal travel booking platform for train, bus, flights and ferries, has been awarded Renfe’s ‘Most Active Online Agency’ (Agencia Online más Activa) at Fitur 2022 in Madrid. The award was presented by the General Manager of Renfe Viajeros, Sonia Araujo Lopez.

This is the first edition of the Renfe Awards, which aims to recognise its commercial partners who go above and beyond to support the growth of train travel in Europe, ultimately helping to promote the use of rail for a more sustainable travel future.

In this way, Renfe extended a thank you to all the winners (in 16 categories ranging from companies who reactivated corporate travel to cultural institutions) for the effort carried out last year to maintain and increase the railway transport activity, in particularly complicated times as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Omio has worked with Renfe since 2015.

Javier Marín Martinón, Sales and Commercial Director of Renfe Viajeros, stated: “We felt obliged to give back to the travel community via these awards, in order to celebrate the valuable work carried out by travel agencies and our commercial partners during such an intense year, for their help and determination in promoting the railway as the most comfortable, fastest and sustainable means of transport”.

Chris Hall, VP of Commercial at Omio, who attended the event said: “I’m thrilled to be collecting the award on behalf of the organisation. We’ve been working with Renfe since 2015, and are happy to see that our hard work to connect travellers across the globe with trains that suit their needs has been recognised. We look forward to helping many more Omio travellers take more rail journeys.”

Fitur, running again in 2022 as a beacon of hope for the recovery of the travel and transportation industry, is the global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound markets in Latin America. Both Omio and Renfe’s presence symbolised the desire for strong cross-continental partnerships that empower travellers to have choice when travelling.
