Plan your journey from/to Logan International Airport Boston by finding out which transport links are available upon arrival—whether its an airport transfer by bus or a local train which gets you to where you need to be. We recommend booking your ticket with Omio.
Although Boston was the first city in America to build a subway (1897), much of it was built before the advent of the automobile, meaning that the city is packed tightly together. As such, you'll be able to see many of the attractions you came for simply by walking around and experiencing the city first hand. Taking a taxi or driving yourself around is a test in patience, as traffic is almost always heavy and parking is not easily accessible.
If you're traveling to the airport from Boston City Centre, you've got a number of cheap and accessible options. The Silver Line Route rapid transit service, running from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. every day, is perhaps your most convenient option for getting to the airport. This bus service picks you up at South Station, where you can connect using Amtrak or MBTA subways, and takes you directly to Logan Airport, making drop-offs at each of the airport terminals. In all, the trip shouldn't take more than half an hour. Additionally, you can take the MBTA subway if you're on the Blue Line already, as Logan Airport is a station on that line. You also have the option of taking the shuttle bus, with pick-ups at Braintree, Framingham, Peabody and Woburn, and drop-offs at each of the airport terminals.
Using the MBTA's subway or Silver Line services will mean anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes of travel time. MBTA buses 448 and 459 serving the Logan Airport will run you 25 to 40 minutes of travel time before you're at the airport. If cost isn't a factor, taking a taxi will split that travel time in half, taking about 15-30 minutes, unless traffic is heavy, for a fare roughly between $35 and $70 USD (October 2019). For a scenic option, you can take a water taxi. You'll have to get to Logan Dock, jump in a water taxi, and then take the courtesy bus 66 to the airport. This should give you a travel time of 20 minutes from the docks.
As Logan International Airport is one of the biggest airports in the region, it's well equipped with many different facilities. Banks, ATMS, and bureau de change are available throughout the airport for those needing to make financial transactions, and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars in each of the terminals. You'll also find plenty of gift shops, fashion stores, and duty free for all of your shopping needs. For disabled passengers, the airport is highly accessible, consisting of specialised restrooms, Braille signage, TDD services and disabled car parking. The Silver Line route headed inbound into Boston is also wheelchair accessible.
Each of the terminals at Logan International are designed with accessibility in mind. This means that restrooms are accessible, elevators are available (with Braille signage and emergency call buttons) and service animals are allowed. However, if you require special assistance to and from a gate or are in need of medical equipment, such as a wheelchair or oxygen mask, you will have to acquire a pass provided by the airline. Shuttle buses serving Logan International are also well equipped with wheelchair lifts and audio-visual cues and announcements for oncoming stops. Those with heavy luggage will be pleased to know that the courtesy shuttle bus serving Airport Station (on the Blue Line) has plenty of room for luggage, and luggage carts can be purchased at the airport for a nominal fee.
If you're looking to travel like a Bostonian, the truest method is to use the aforementioned Silver Line bus route, as this will pick you up and drop you off right at South Station, where you'll find several connecting trains and buses. You also have the option of taking a courtesy shuttle bus to the airport, which will take you directly from Airport Station on the Blue Line. It will cost $2.75 USD (fare subject to change) to access the subway platform to get to Airport Station, but once you're on the shuttle, there'll be plenty of room for you and your luggage. Logan International has plenty of eateries in each terminal, so you don't need to worry about packing a snack. In fact, the public transit service to and from the airport is designed to be visitor-friendly, so you shouldn't have to worry about parking, and you'll be able to avoid the trouble and expense of renting and driving a car.
