Hi there, is there any help/suggestion to get my SE W810i working? It just died some weeks ago (turned off completely and I couldnt turn it on at all). After buying a new battery what didnt helped, I managed to upload the latest update recently, but still no way to switch it on... Is this a common problem with this model or am I missing something that would make my life easy again?

Okay...it seems like this is a fairly common problem, there are a couple of simple things to try.

First, when you press the on/off switch, does the infra red port show a little red light? The infra red port looks a bit like the top of a remote control, on the side of the phone.

If so, then it's a problem with the software on the phone itself, which we might be able to fix with a bit of technical stuff. Don't worry, it isn't too tough!

First, you will need the Sony Ericsson PC Suite to connect the phone to your computer...which you will find here.

You updated it, so you might have this program already.

THEN:
  1. Remove the battery, sim card and the memory stick from the phone and then raplace the battery but DO NOT turn it on.
  2. If you're operating Windows XP, connect to PC suite. However with Vista you might have to download Sony Ericsson's Update Service software from the Sony Ericsson website.
  3. Then you'll have to download: WotanClient server, open it and allow the program to update. NOTE: you must leave the login box empty
  4. Plug the that otherwise useless big cable that came with your phone into the computer (but not the phone...yet).
  5. Press start on Wotan.
  6. Hold on to the 2 and 5 keys on your phone, simultaneously!
  7. Plug your phone in (using that otherwise useless big cable that came with your phone) and hopefully the phone will reboot.
  8. Take out the battery for a few minutes and now your phone is working again (maybe)!

Hopefully this will work, any trouble then let us know!

If it doesn't work, then I think you may have to get a new one, I'm afraid... Less than 50 quid for an unlocked second hand w810 on on eBay...or get a Pay As You Go and then get it unlocked to work on your network!

Good luck, any more probs then just mail me back!

Hi Ernest, I tried my best and followed all steps but did get a error message from the WotanClient:

Any idea what that means? Cheers and regard, Andrea

Yup, the way that the program works is that you 'charge' it with credits that you buy from Wotan to perform services like unlocking phones. However, as you only wish to flash your phone back to life you should not need to log in or spend any money/credits.

Was the password box filled when you started the programme? If not, leave it empty and try it again. Hope it works!

Yeah, both boxes were filled...
