Q & A > Contract up for renewal

My contract is up for renewal at the start of next week and I thought I'd get everyone's 2 cents as to what I should upgrade to or switch networks to get hold of.

I currently have a Nokia N95 with a 6GB microSD card, which I'm happy to move across to a new phone to bulk up capacity if it's a little short. I'm on Orange and I'd prefer to stay there as I've had no issues with the network and I'm a fan of the old Orange Wednesdays, but I am content to switch networks if it means a much better phone.

Ok, now for the kind of stuff I'm looking for in a phone. I like cutting edge gadgetry so I'm looking for something pretty slick with fairly high end specs. Good music and media playback is a must as well as a reasonable amount of storage space (preferably expandable). I'd like a decent camera, but an 8MP camera is not a deal-breaker, I'd be perfectly happy with 5. Ditto with a touchscreen - would be nice, but again not a deal-breaker. Needs to have wi-fi and GPS would be a bonus. I'm happy to wait for a month or so if something awesome is in the pipelines, but my current phone is not going to hold out much longer than that.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Cutting edge, slick, and with media playback goodness, you say?

How about a Samsung Omnia? It has a five megapixel camera, a responsive touchscreen interface with plenty of customisable features and shortcuts, excellent media playback, and runs on a steady Windows Mobile 6 interface behind the scenes. Storage is 8 or 16GB internal memory, which can be boosted with your microSD card if needed.

It is available on the major networks for free on some deals, and Omio forum member Evrae loved it!

Failing that, what about the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1? Very much the showbiz handset, the high resolution screen and panel interface proving to be popular. Only a 3.2 megapixel camera however, and it is having a spot of trouble running swiftly under Windows Mobile. It's earmarked for release at the end of the month, so if you could hold out just a little while longer we'll give a review handset the Omio once over and let you know if it is any good...
