Recently purchased this PAYG second hand phone which is
locked to O2 on replacing a new O2 sim, registering it, clicking
on phonebook to discover that the the number 4 location speed dial is
'greyed out' and inoperable. When I click on
APPLICATIONS I find locations 2 to 9 are taken up by info
hotline, trafficline,topupcredit, etc. I have tried to delete them
to no avail. Very grateful for any help.

It seems as though the o2 PAYG handsets have certain functionality inbuilt to the phone, and unfortunately you are unable to change them at all...unless the phone's firmware.
This is a highly risky thing to do, and o2 stick their information in there to dissuade people from unlocking the handset and selling it overseas. Sorry we couldn't help more!
