How To Set Up MMS Messaging On iPhone

It was a long time coming, but finally the iPhone 3.0 update brought multimedia messaging functionality to Apple’s device, allowing photos, videos, contact details, even directions from Google Maps to be sent, just as one would a regular text message.

However, the iPhone needs a little bit of setting up before you start pinging embarrassing pictures to your mates...

  • To send an MMS, you firstly need to turn the feature on! Go to Settings > Messages and flick on MMS Messaging. From here, you can modify all sorts of other settings including showing a mini-preview of incoming texts, repeating alerts for those messages you miss, and showing the subject field.
  • Firing up Messages from your home page should now show a little camera icon to the left of the text input box. Tap this and a menu pops up, inviting you to either take a photo (or video in the 3GS’ case), or to pull an image from the iPhone’s existing library.
  • After taking or choosing a photo, a miniature thumbnail of your masterpiece will accompany the text in the input box. MMS texts allow for plenty more characters, so feel free to fill this space with lots of words...press send when complete!
  • Receiving an MMS is also good news, with new pics and videos now appearing directly within the Messages application for your perusal, as well as having the option to save them to memory.
