In a similar way that your computer has an operating system to help it manage with the various demands made on it’s hardware, so too does a mobile phone. As smartphones creep ever closer to a desktop experience, the importance of the device’s operating system has become increasingly prominent.

This result has been a great deal of competition between technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Nokia, with other competitors, such as Palm RIM and Sony Ericsson pitching into the fray.
